Tallis Soundscapes

With Elvina Flower

Site-specific audio-walk, London, 2006

We worked with a group of Btec media students at Thomas Tallis school in Greenwich to create a site-specific audio-tour that will serve as an archive, or audio memory, of the school – which was soon to be destroyed and rebuilt.

Workshop participants used audio to explore how the different spaces in the school building are invested with memories and emotions.

Visitors collect a CD player and follow a map to various points around the school building and grounds, where they can hear the relevant audio.

All the sounds are recorded and edited by the students, using special binaural microphones which they constructed themselves.
